In one working week, Russell Richardson are processing approx. 225 tons of paper at our site in Sheffield and every piece of our shredded paper is sent to the local mill for recycling into tissue products.
Putting this in to context, while we are saving our customers from drowning in confidential waste, we are producing enough shredded paper to fill an Olympic size swimming pool every 5 ½ weeks.
Using the regularly quoted figures ‘Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water.’* Russell Richardson can boast that every week we save a staggering:
- 3825 trees.
- 85,500 gallons of oil
- 675 cubic yards of landfill
- 900,000 Kilowatts of energy.
- 1,575,000 Gallons of water.
All our customers contribute to this figure and receive their own environmental certificates, but combined, the amount of shredded paper being sent from our depot to be recycled in to tissue products is incredible (225 tons of shredded paper makes an awful lot of toilet rolls!).
After recent investments in a new primary shredding machinery for bulk waste and the installation of a quicker, more efficient main shredder, these figures are destined to keep rising.
